Are You a Risk Taker?

When people ask me what I do for a living, I tell them, “I help people take the risks that will change their lives.”

Usually, this prompts them to ask, “Well, how do you do that?” And I say, “Through working together, establishing a deep connection, asking powerful questions, using tools and exercises to help uncover limiting beliefs and blocks that they may have, getting clear on their goals, and finally, empowering them with the confidence, courage, and commitment to go after their dreams.”Then they ask, “Wow. What do you call yourself?”

“I call myself a Life Coach.”

I’ve been a Life Coach for almost 3 years now. My business is called “Anik Perspectives” and I give you different perspectives that you may not have realized before to help you achieve your goals.

I work with people one-on-one, also with groups, and teams, helping empower them, working with them an hour a week, for at least 3 months at a time, which is when someone can really start seeing the benefits of a coaching relationship.

You may have heard it takes 21 days to establish a new habit or change an old one, and in order to continue with your new habit or your changed habit, you need to continue to put that into practice, and have accountability for continuing with that change.

I help provide that accountability, until you can become accountable for yourself.

So back to my question, “Are you a risk taker?”

There are varying degrees of risk taking. Think about the financial risks that you take in your life. For example, do you have a mutual fund? Do you invest money in stocks and bonds? Do you buy CDs, save them for later, and cash them out in your retirement? There are different kinds of risk taking, not only in the financial world, but in the choices and the decisions you make each day. What I’ve learned over time…in my ripe 39 years of age…is that the only way to really grow and challenge yourself to get to the next level, is to take a RISK.

Now I’m not talking about a life-threatening kind of risk, or an adrenaline pumping kind of risk, I’m talking about a calculated kind of risk.

I’m talking about that kind of risk where you do your research, have a specific goal in mind (a SMART goal = specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound) and by taking the risk, you are getting outside of your comfort zone and doing something different. Because as Einstein is quoted as saying, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

How can you ever make more money by staying in the same job? How can you ever find the love of your life by continuing to go to the same places over and over again? How can you land that dream job if you don’t put yourself in front of new people through networking, getting yourself on Linked In, or going on a trip that you’ve never taken and potentially running into someone new?

There is a Universal Intelligence. That Universal Intelligence is that all-knowing that we are all tapped into. We are all made of energy. And that energy is tapped into the universal energy, the Universal Intelligence.

The Universe will align the energy that you are emitting. So if you are very clear on what it is you want, and you are asking for it, putting that energy out into the Universe, the Universe will help conspire for you to help those dreams come true.

So by being willing to take a risk, a risk you may not have originally felt the courage or the confidence or the commitment to move forward with, you can harness the ability to reach that goal.

And besides, what is the worst that could happen?

If you are taking a calculated risk, the worst that could happen is that you don’t achieve your specific goal. You fail. Do you think that Michael Jordan never failed? Do you think that Einstein never failed? Do you think that Bill Gates never failed?

All three had major failures in their lives but it encouraged them to bring more intensity and focus into their crafts to get it right the next time around. (See my blogpost in November for more about succeeding after failure.)

So let me ask you, what risks will you take in your life, looking at your goals, to get you to your next level?

Go out there and take some risks, you will be happy you did!

Have a great month.
xo, Anik
